Behind the Headlines of the Prima Implant for Dry Macular Degeneration

© 2025 American Macular Degeneration Foundation

This webinar originally aired on November 20, 2025 as part of the Eye Know AMD Empowerment Talks: Macular Degeneration Education for Informed Choices

HOST: Matthew Levine, AMDF Director of Grants and Partnerships
GUEST: Daniel Palanker, PhD, Professor of Ophthalmology, Stanford University

After years of research and development, a tiny, wireless retinal implant called PRIMA (which stands for photovoltaic retina implant microarray) has been shown to restore usable vision in people who have lost vision due to Geographic Atrophy, a late stage of dry AMD. In this webinar, we’ll be answering questions about PRIMA to get a realistic picture of the future of this technology and when patients can expect the technology to be available.
