Research into Age-related Macular Degeneration

Kelly Mulfaul

Kelly Mulfaul, PhD, University of Iowa
Mentor:
Robert Mullins, PhD

Dr. Mulfaul joined the prestigious Mullins lab in October 2018 as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar supervised by Dr. Robert Mullins and Dr. Budd Tucker. The focus of her research is on the role of the choriocapillaris in early AMD pathogenesis and investigating methods to rescue or replace choroidal endothelial cells.

With her 2020 AMDF/FFS Post-Doctoral Award ($11,250) she studied the role of CFH protein in protecting choroidal endothelial cells from membrane attack, complex formation and cellular lysis in AMD.
