Research into Age-related Macular Degeneration

Our Grants Program

© 2025 American Macular Degeneration Foundation

The American Macular Degeneration Foundation identifies and supports research initiatives with high potential to transform the lives of those affected by age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Our goals are to accelerate the discovery and development of:

  • new insights into the origins and development of AMD (including diagnostic tools);
  • treatments that can slow, halt or reverse the progress of the disease;
  • preventives and cures (including sight restoration); and
  • new tools to improve the quality-of-life of those who are living with AMD.

We support researchers at all stages of their careers with flexible funds, which allows them to pivot and respond to their findings.

In addition to grants solely funded by AMDF, we sometimes partner with mission-aligned organizations for greater impact.
