Monitoring your Macular Degeneration

Once you have been diagnosed with age-related macular degeneration, it is important to monitor your vision regularly to ensure the best possible preservation of the vision you have. In addition to scheduling regular exams with your eye care specialist, there are at-home tools you can use to monitor any changes in your vision and disease progression.

Amsler Grid
The Amsler grid is used to check whether lines look wavy or distorted, or whether areas of the visual field are missing. We provide you a free, downloadable and printable version you can use at home.

KeepSight Journal
The KeepSight Journal is a simple, fun and comprehensive, magazine-format tool to monitor your vision at home. It was developed with the support of the National Eye Institute and clinically tested at leading eye clinics.

Studies have shown that users of the KeepSight Journal have much higher odds (710 percent!) of reporting weekly vision monitoring compared to the standard-of-care Amsler grid — and it’s free through AMDF.
