AMDF Advocacy

© 2025 American Macular Degeneration Foundation

The American Macular Degeneration Foundation is working toward securing access to the treatments, tools, and services that preserve vision and independence for all Americans with macular degeneration.

Through our advocacy, we fight for you, and with you. We fight for your right to affordable treatments, tools, services, and technology, and your right to transportation access.

Macular degeneration is a growing epidemic in the United States with nearly 20 million Americans diagnosed with some form or state of macular degeneration (AMD). As our population ages, these numbers are expected to grow.  By age 75 your risk of developing AMD is one in three, and every day 10,000 baby boomers turn 75.

The AMD population faces many unique challenges.

Our goals

  • Protect your vision: We’ll fight to secure access to critical sight-saving treatments for every American with AMD.
  • Fuel groundbreaking research: Research, and treatments, have seen remarkable advancements in the last 10 years, but there’s more work to be done. We’ll push for funding increases to fuel new discoveries that lead to new treatments and cures for macular degeneration.
  • Empower Independence: Americans with AMD deserve to maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life for as long as possible. We’ll advocate to eliminate the barriers to vital assistive technology, tools, and services that help you navigate life with dignity and grace, and maintain your independence and quality of life.
