AMD research has progressed.
Has the conversation caught up?
Our understanding of AMD has advanced. New tools exist. Earlier intervention is possible. But for many, the way AMD is diagnosed, discussed, and managed hasn’t kept pace.
The New Narrative for AMD brings progress and awareness together.
The old story left patients with little to do.
The old narrative

“There’s not much we can do right now. Come back in six months, and if things get worse, we can try injections.”

The new narrative

“There are many things we can do to slow the progression of your AMD, and many options to protect your independence.”

The shift isn’t just clinical. It’s about what patients are told, what they’re empowered to do, and how every stakeholder plays a role in a different outcome.
Every link in the chain extends independence.
Tap each step to learn more.
1
Earlier detection
tap to expand
Dark adaptation testing, genetic risk awareness, and regular exams can identify AMD before symptoms appear — creating a window for intervention that didn’t exist before.
2
Earlier intervention
tap to expand
Lifestyle changes, AREDS supplementation, proactive monitoring, and other options now available have the potential to slow progression at every stage of dry AMD.
3
Preserved healthy tissue
tap to expand
Healthy retinal tissue is the substrate for emerging therapies — gene therapy, neuroprotection, stem cell approaches. Preserving it now means patients are better positioned when those treatments arrive.
4
Optimized by new technology
tap to expand
Assistive devices and low vision technology can leverage remaining healthy tissue to restore functional vision. More preserved tissue means more for new technology to work with. Low vision rehabilitation maximizes what patients can do with the vision they have.
The shared goal
Prolonged independence
Every stakeholder has a role.
