INFO on SAM SNEAD & AMD

  • Posted by noell on March 25, 1998 at 23:23:23:

My father (and I) have spoken to Dr. Jarding. We spoke to him a couple of weeks ago, before Sam Snead.

He is very helpful and compassionate. He is not after money; the procedure is not expensive. We thought that it sounded good and made a lot of sense. But my father's ophthalmologist said that he has not heard about it -- and he does keep up on the latest research.

My father's doc recommended photodynamic therapy -- low beam laser with dye. But it seems that my father is not bad enough for them to try that yet. They have told him to wait. He is considering having the Tensmac (Dr Jarding's treatment) done in the meantime. We are currently researching it just to make sure that it cannot do any harm.

I will post Dr. Jarding's address and phone # here. If any of you find anything else or have Dr. Jarding's procedure done, I would really appreciate it if you would let me know.

    AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL......

  • Posted by noell on April 14, 1998 at 18:28:12:

As some of you know, my father has wet macular degeneration. He just returned last night from South Dakota. He had the TENSMAC treatment with Dr. Jarding that Sam Snead had. UNFORTUNATELY IT DID NO GOOD. He is NO better. If anything he's worse because now he's very discouraged. He bought the TENS unit and will continue to use it in the hope that it just might do some good.

And just for the record, Sam Snead has the dry AMD.

If anyone knows of ANY experimental treatment that is being tried ANYWHERE in the world, please let me know.

And if anyone has any questions about the TENSMAC treatment, I'll be glad to answer them.

    WE CANNOT GIVE UP.

    Tensmac treatments

I am a rehabilitation counselor for the blind interested in hearing from people who have undergone the Tensmac treatment. I am aware of several clients/past clients who are considering this treatment and I would like to hear from folks who can tell me of their experience both good and bad with Tensmac. I want to provide as much info as possible to my clients so they can make an intelligent and informed decision. PLEASE e-mail or call with your thoughts so others can benefit from your experience. My telephone number is 208-334-3220 Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Thank you.

I am the director of an Oregon nonprofit organization which provides support services to individuals who are visually impaired. We, too, have had many inquiries about the microcurrent treatment offered by Drs. Miller, Jarding and Khouri. What have you heard recently (other than the woman from N.D. whose father apparently did not have success with the treatment)?

RE: Microcurrent Stimulation Therapy for MD

Sam Snead, I understand, has had successful treatment. Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, please let me know the product and, if possible, their email address or phone number. Thanks.

    Dear John,
Microcurrent stimulation is a treatment involving electronic stimulation of acupuncture needles, and involves two weeks of treatment at one of three facilities (CA, SD, or FL so far), followed by purchase of a machine about $1600) for home therapy afterward. Studies are now being conducted, and I believe they are still taking volunteers, who pay for treatment at a reduced rate.

You must be in the early stages of wet MD and not have had any laser treatment in at least one eye. A couple of people on the MD list have participated, but have not reported any improvement as yet, and I tend to suspect anything that has a profit factor such as this. If you wish to look into it some more, contact Dr. Miller in San Pablo CA at:

    Phone: 650-948-5120
    Fax: 650-948-5360

    Best wishes,
    Dan

Dry Macular Degeneration and Micro Current Stimulation

  • Posted by Jim McCardle on October 01, 1998 at 18:41:50:

It was reported that Sam Snead had shown remarkable improvement in his vision with this method of treatment. Has anyone heard of others who have shown improvement using this treatment? I would appreciate any details. Thanks in advance, very interesting site.

    Dear Jim,
The micro-current stimulation study is still going on in California, and--of the several people who have reported back--no one has reported any improvement in their vision. There is also a cost of over $1500 for the machine which every patient must purchase for home follow-up. Detractors of this experimental treatment are saying that Mr. Snead's improvement could have been a natural occurence unrelated to the acupuncture therapy. (We all know that our vision will have its ups and downs for no apparant reason.)

If you would like information on microcurrent stimulation, I can forward it to you as sent to me by the California doctor. Please feel free to contact me.

    Best regards,
    Dan Roberts,

I disagree with the info you posted on the AMD bulletin board! First, the MicroStim home unit costs $800. We just purchased one from Dr. George Khouri in West Palm Beach, FL last week. And there ARE people who have experienced positive results. As best I can tell, the key is getting the microcurrent stimulation therapy ASAP before it gets any worse. I am caring for a friend who has wet AMD (her nos. are 20/1000 and 20/400!). She just had the treatment last week. She has had some improvement, where we were told to expect NONE because of how bad off she was to begin with. And she is continuing home treatments with the portable machine. If you care to speak to Mr. Joe Celli, email (LMGarwood@aol.com) me for his phone no. You will learn a lot!!
